EUGENIA RASKOPOULOS
Bask in the rose-hued glow of Eugenia Raskopoulos’ work – a striking piece of Greek script that translates to ‘the other is within the self’ – and ask yourself the question, what makes you unique? Born in the Czech Republic to Greek parents and eventually immigrating to Australia, Raskopoulos’ piece draws on her complex relationship with language, exploring both the fluidity and strict parameters of it, and how it defines one’s identity.
Eugenia Raskopoulos' work explores ideas of identity, translation, language and the body.
Born in 1959 in the Czech Republic, Eugenia Raskopoulos immigrated to Australia, via Greece, in 1963. Raskopoulos’ work is held in Australian and international collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Gallery of New South Wales; Queensland Art Gallery; Art Gallery of Western Australia; Artbank Collection; Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Greece; Polaroid Corporation Australia; Bodo University, Norway; Malmo University, Sweden; HOTA Gallery, QLD; Groningen Hochschule University, Netherlands. Raskopoulos’ works are also held in private collections in Australia, Greece, Switzerland and the USA.
Eugenia Raskopoulos is represented by MAIS WRIGHT, Sydney.
