SOPHIA EURELL
Opening BIG CITY LIGHTS* each evening the haunting vocals of Sophia Eurell will envelope the Southport CBD with a song of the emu and kangaroo of the night sky (Guruman and Nguruny), of the dreaming (Bujerahama), and how they dance (Ngarilehla).
Sophia Eurell is a member of the Yugambeh language region, and a descendant from the Tweed river people and from Wollumbin. She sings in the Yugambeh language and has performed Welcome to Countries at various different events, including the opening of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and alongside the Wallabies Rugby Union Team. Sophia uses her voice to reflect her culture, and to express her own perspective of the world as a young person.
