CHARMAINE DAVIS
Charmaine Davis’ “Out to Sea Tapestry” is an animated projection onto the Scarborough Centre, conveying the flow of the river and First Nations people’s connection to place. Says Davis of her piece: “This piece represents the river flowing out to sea. As in life the river has a beginning and an end. It changes and flows, meandering here and there. Life’s journey. Rivers and mountains are themes that have always run through my work. I am tracing over the landscapes with my brush, feeling my way into the mystery of our lives and the places our families have lived. That sense of belonging is very powerful. Grounds you.”
Charmaine Davis is a Goori woman of Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung descent, this area is in Northern New South Wales. She paints landscapes in acrylic and have recently been exploring 3D mediums. Her subject matter is family homelands and connection to her Aboriginal heritage.
