FRANKIE DYSON REILLY
Liarbirds is an immersive audio-visual narrative, depicting scenes from composer and artist Frankie Dyson Reilly’s experience as Mt. Wilson Artist-in-Residence in January 2024. Through a multi-modal layering of her field recordings and visual art, Dyson Reilly constructs a graphic score that invites musicians to interact with (and sometimes even become) birds, insects, and trees. Listen for the sounds of violin, trombone, vibraphone, and flute as they blend with the vibrant sensory offerings of the Blue Mountains in three colourful movements.
Frankie Dyson Reilly is an Australian composer, artist, and researcher. Passionate about imbuing light, colour and vibrancy within her music, she draws inspiration from local sources both mundane and remarkable, creating multi-modal scores which reflect her love of Australian flora, fauna, and sounds. As a current Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, this interest in the relationship between sight and sound has led to Frankie’s research into the use of colour within music notation. Frankie’s immersive and innovative colour-scores have been commissioned and performed in collaboration with the Muses Trio, the Summers Night Project, and Easter at the Piano Mill 2024, and seen her hold artist residencies at Mt. Wilson and the Harrigans Lane Collective.
